What is a Doula?
A doula is a woman, experienced in childbirth, who assists families by “mothering the mother.” During pregnancy, doulas assist moms in finding information to support the kind of birth they want. During labor & delivery, doulas work closely with the partner, obstetrician/midwife, and hospital staff to create a caring & supportive birth experience. Doulas are trained in physical and emotional comfort measures, and doula services have been shown to shorten labor, reduce use of medication, and lower cesarean rates. Doulas can also assist families beyond the birth with breastfeeding, baby care, and more. Well Born Baby Doulas are DONA certified.

Why do I deserve a Doula?
Every woman deserves a doula. Doctors, nurses, even midwives have responsibilities including hospital regulations and other patients, that may keep them from fully focusing on the needs and desires of the mother. Doulas also provide support and suggestions for partners that can enhance their experience of birth. Your doula is there just for you, to mother you as you prepare to become a mother yourself.
